The Horton effect

Since watching Horton Hears a Who, our kids, Catherine especially, have expanded their vocabulary: apparently none of them knew what a speck was. We’ve had to explain what a speck was, and that no, they don’t really have worlds on them. I guess we’re not quite getting through. Today Elisabeth said, ” ‘Sat a bug?” I said, “No, it’s just a speck.” Catherine’s eyes lit up and she cried, “A real speck?!?”

Then, while playing outside, Abigail was walking across the deck when she stopped suddenly, dropped, and cried, “Look, a speck!! It has a world on it!!” And again, Catherine said, “A real speck?!?”
