Um, just ignore that, Mom!

I had my ladies’ fellowship lunch today, and for the first time I had to take my children because Clay was subbing and couldn’t come home for lunch.   I let them take toys, and gave them all kinds of strict instructions on how I expected them to behave, including no running and no hollering.  Well, Elisabeth hadn’t been done with her lunch five minutes before she ran across the room just yelling at the top of her lungs.  I popped out of the kitchen  and made good on my threat to make her sit at the table with me instead of playing with the other kids.  She was eventually allowed back up, and a little while later came into the kitchen and said, “Mom, I wasn’t screaming or hollering just now!”  I didn’t know why she was saying this, I hadn’t heard anything from her since she had returned to the other room.  I said, “Well, Mommy didn’t hear you scream or holler.  Why are you saying that?”  She got this surprised look on her face, and simply said, “Oh!” before turning and fleeing from the room, as if to say, “Oops, well in that case, pretend I never said that!”
