It’s time for my second giveaway. This time, I was asked to review a novel based on an upcoming film. The title is Persecuted and the story follows John Luther, a popular TV preacher who is taking an unpopular stand against a new bill in Congress for religious equality. Unfortunately, the sinister powers behind the bill set out to silence his influential voice, leading the reader on a race against time with him as he fights to protect everything he holds dear.
This kind of story is one of my favorites, so I was excited to get the chance to review this book. And on the whole, it did not disappoint. There were a few back-stories that I thought could have been more fully developed. I was left with a few questions. For one, the book never did exactly spell out what the bill meant and what the results would be and how it was a threat to religious freedom. I had heard enough about similar topics in real life to have at least a vague idea, but I really thought it should have been clearly explained. Also, it never told exactly why the main villain was so invested in this bill. Why was he willing to lie, cheat, and kill to get it passed? I finished the book, but I’m still not sure.
That being said, it was a fun, easy read. Would be perfect if you still have a few pool days or even a beach trip left this summer, and if you’d like a copy for yourself, comment below! We’ll draw a winner on Monday, July 21!
